Happy Administrative Professionals' Day!
What is Administrative Professionals’ Day, really? It used to be called Secretaries’ Day back in the day when we called flight attendants airline stewardesses. Wikipedia says, “Administrative Professionals' Day (also known as Secretaries Day or Admin Day) is an unofficial secular observed in several countries to recognize the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals.” Here at Abilene Animal Hospital we could call it a day for many things: administrative professional, receptionist, veterinary assistant, veterinary technician (although they technically have their own week), inventory control officer, chief client communicator, bookkeeper, lost dog finder, federal health paper professional, rabies control officer, housekeeper, animal health prevention educator, new puppy snuggler, laundress (and we can have some nasty laundry over here), grief counselor, and many more. To put it simply, our staff are like an extension of our right arm. We are not really sure what the politically correct term for the times is, but we do know that we couldn’t do it without them.
Did you know that collectively our team of nine has 137 years of experience in the veterinary field? That is an average of over 15 years of service per team member. Talk about dedication! These ladies work hard day in and day out to service our clientele and patients. They usually come to work for us because they love working with animals, but they often continue to learn and branch out developing many skills that make them absolutely indispensable to us as veterinarians. With this longevity comes a great deal of knowledge about taking care of animals whether it be the new kitten getting its first vaccinations, the old family dog needing a final resting place, the young girl with her first 4-H horse, or our food producers who continue to supply this country with safe, wholesome meat for a growing world. We appreciate that our staff works tirelessly alongside of us all year long to keep us going and keep us on track. You can’t ask for much more than that, except maybe a more all-encompassing name for their special day. How about “People We Couldn’t Function Without Day”? It’s probably too long… Whatever you wish to call it, our hats are off to those who work behind the scenes, on the phones, in the rain, up to their eyeballs in God knows what every day, all year to make the business run. They are terrific!
Thanks to our great staff!
